A Word From The Author

It is with some regret and sadness that I write this, as it marks my departure from the hobby which I have pursued eagerly for the past 3 years. The following write-ups, which describes the micromice of the team, are meant to be a personal record of the team’s performance.

The team, which comprises of me - Mr Loy, as well as Mr Cheng, Mr Choo and Mr Leong, have spent one and a half years in the pursuit of championship gold in local competitions. Ever since the team’s inception, we have participated in 3 competitions, namely April ‘97 competition, SRG ‘97 and Computer Playtime ‘97. In all of these competitions we have managed to win the gold.

I find it difficult to explain the team’s performance, as there are too many conflicting factors and explanations. Some argue sheer luck, others think its the combined skill of the team, and so on. Personally, I think that the chief reason is the unique combination of the team members that made our credible participation possible. Individually, each of us could have formed our own independent micromouse teams with other fellow hobbyists, but only this particular teaming of the four of us could have enabled us to achieve what we had. Simply put, it was a interesting turn of fate that brought us together. Honour provided the unity, and interest the motivation. Following that, a curious blend of common sense, simplicity and practicality did the rest.

My departure from the team also marks a crucial moment in the team’s journey. In many ways the journey has been a voyage of self-discovery, an expedition into the realm of the inner self. At the end of this journey, we emerge reborn, profoundly changed for the better. As part of the team, I can only go so far, and I have thus fulfilled my task, bringing us across the preliminary threshold by forming the team, helping to develop the technologies that enabled us to succeed, and joined in the quest for gold. Yet despite my departure I remain a part of the team’s psyche and will return to help when needed. Thus, the ending only marks the beginning of the initiation, with more adventures and trials ahead.
